A gear bearing is a type of rolling-element bearing similar to an epicyclic gear,is roller bearing combining to epicyclical gear. Gear bearings consist of a number of smaller 'satellite' gears which revolve around the center of the bearing along a track on the outsides of the internal and satellite gears, and on the inside of the external gear. Each element of it is represented by concentric alternation of rollers and gearwheels with equality of roller(s) diameter(s) to gearwheel(s) pitch diameter(s). The widths of conjugated rollers and gearwheels in pairs are the same.Because each gear is in between two concentric rings. Therefore, the widths of the satellite gears must all be the same.
Gear bearing , in order for the surfaces to provide efficient axial meshing, the teeth must either be beveled or made with engagement. This avoids misalignment, sticking, and reduces sliding friction in the bearing.So,the engagement of gear bearing is herringbone or with the skew end faces to realize efficient rolling axial contact. The downside to this bearing is manufacturing complexity. Gear bearings could be used, for example, as efficient rotary suspension, kinematically simplified planetary gear mechanism in measuring instruments and watches.
