Can an Ejector Pin Serve as a Punch?

In manufacturing, ejector pins and punches are tools with distinct uses. Their design and function differences mean ejector pins can rarely act as punches.

Ejector pins are for injection molding. After plastic solidifies in the mold, they gently push the product out, using little force to overcome adhesion and friction. For example, in making plastic toys, they ensure smooth demolding.

Punches, however, are for stamping, punching, and cutting. In metal sheet work, they team up with presses, applying great force to create holes or cut shapes. They endure high stress, so they need high - strength materials.

In structure, ejector pins are slender cylinders, simple and made for mold ejection. Their small size and fragility make them unable to handle the stress punches face, easily bending or breaking. Punches are sturdier, with shaped working ends and tough materials for stability.

Accuracy also sets them apart. Ejector pins focus on smooth demolding, while punches must meet strict size and shape requirements.

In rare cases, an ejector pin might make a small hole in very soft materials with little force. But this isn't real stamping. In normal manufacturing, ejector pins can't replace punches.
